WILLIAMS: The Electoral College Debate | Daily Wire

For those of us not entirely clear and indeed easily confused by the American Electoral College system of voting, the article below by Walter E. Williams gives good reasons why the Electoral College is so important to the essence of America and it’s continuation as a Republic. The Founding Fathers, as Williams points out, set up the Electoral College as a means of stopping the descent into Democracy, which they regarded as a poor cousin to a Republic.

Williams quotes John Adams, who wrote..

“Remember Democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts and murders itself. There never was a Democracy yet, that did not commit suicide”.

Those of us who consider ourselves fortunate to live in a Democracy, would do well to consider these words and think twice perhaps, before criticising the American Electoral College system.
